Jeremiah Trotter was born on January 20, 1977 in Texarkana, Texas, and played at Hooks High School and Stephen F. Austin. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted him in the third round, 72nd overall, in 1998, and he recorded six tackles as a rookie backup. Andy Reid made him the starting middle linebacker in 1999, and Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 66 for that season.
His 120-tackle 2000 season brought first-team All-Pro honors and the first of two consecutive Pro Bowls, and Madden NFL 2001 rated him 82 for that year. Madden NFL 02 rated him 90 for 2001, when Philadelphia won the NFC East and lost the NFC Championship Game to St. Louis. He signed a seven-year, $36 million contract with Washington on April 19, 2002 and was released on June 1, 2004.
He returned to Philadelphia in 2004 on a veteran-minimum deal, became the starter midway through the season, and started Super Bowl XXXIX, a 24-21 loss to New England. He was voted to the Pro Bowl again after the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and Madden NFL 07 rated him 93 for the 2006 season. He played three games for Tampa Bay in 2007 and rejoined the Eagles for 2009, his final season. Philadelphia inducted him into the Eagles Hall of Fame on November 28, 2016.
