Lofa Tatupu was born on November 15, 1982 in San Diego and played high school football at King Philip Regional in Wrentham, Massachusetts, for his father, former Patriots fullback Mosi Tatupu. He transferred to USC from Maine, and the Seattle Seahawks traded up to take him 45th overall in the 2005 draft. He led the team with 104 tackles as a rookie, made the Pro Bowl and started every game of a season that ended in Super Bowl XL; Madden NFL 06 rated him 75 for that year.
Tatupu led Seattle in tackles again in 2006 and 2007 and made the Pro Bowl both seasons. On December 2, 2007 he intercepted three A.J. Feeley passes against Philadelphia and returned them 100 yards, in a season that brought first-team All-Pro honors and a 94 from Madden NFL 08. Seattle signed him to a six-year extension in March 2008, and Madden NFL 09 rated him 97 for the 2008 season.
A torn left pectoral muscle on October 19, 2009 ended that season after five games. He played all 16 games in 2010, a season Madden NFL 11 rated him 88, and Seattle released him on July 31, 2011. He signed with Atlanta in March 2012, tore a pectoral again that July and was released without playing a game. He coached linebackers in Seattle from 2015 to 2016.
