Brian Griese: NFL Passer Rating Leader in 2000 for Denver
Brian Griese was born March 18, 1975, in Miami, Florida. He walked on at Michigan and quarterbacked the 1997 national championship team. The Denver Broncos drafted him in the third round, 91st overall, in 1998. He backed up John Elway as a rookie and earned a ring in Super Bowl XXXIII, and Madden NFL 99 carried him at a calculated 60 that year.
Elway retired, and Griese started 13 games in 1999. In 2000 he threw 19 touchdown passes against four interceptions and led the NFL with a 102.9 passer rating, which earned a Pro Bowl selection; Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 81. He threw 23 touchdowns in 2001, and Madden NFL 02 rated him 85. Denver released him after 2002, and he started five games for Miami in 2003.
Tampa Bay made him its starter in October 2004, and he led the league that season by completing 69.3 percent of his passes. He tore an ACL against Miami on October 16, 2005. He returned to Tampa Bay in a March 2008 trade and threw for 407 yards in a 27-24 overtime win over Chicago; Madden NFL 09 listed him at 77 for that season. He retired after his release in July 2009 with 19,440 passing yards and 119 touchdowns in 93 games. He and his father, Bob Griese, were the first father and son in NFL history to each win a Super Bowl.
