Patrick Surtain II was born on April 14, 2000 and attended American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, where his father, former Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain, coached him. He won a national championship at Alabama and was a unanimous All-American in 2020, and Denver drafted him ninth overall in 2021. He had 58 tackles and four interceptions as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 22 rated 76.
Surtain started all 17 games in 2022 for 60 tackles and two interceptions, and he was named first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler for the first time. Madden NFL 23 rated him 83 for that year. He set a career high with 69 tackles in 2023, a season Madden NFL 24 rated 94. Denver signed him to a four-year, $96 million extension on September 4, 2024.
On October 6, 2024 he returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown against the Raiders, and he closed that year with four interceptions in 16 games, rated 95 by Madden NFL 25. He was named AP Defensive Player of the Year on February 6, 2025. A pectoral strain cost him three games in 2025, a season that brought second-team All-Pro honors and a fourth straight Pro Bowl. Through the 2025 season he had 12 interceptions and two return touchdowns.
