Drew Bledsoe: No. 1 pick, 44,611 yards, four Pro Bowls

Drew Bledsoe was born on February 14, 1972, in Ellensburg, Washington, and played three seasons at Washington State before New England took him first overall in the 1993 draft. In 1994 he led the NFL with 4,555 passing yards and made the first of four Pro Bowls, and on November 13 that year he set single-game records with 45 completions on 70 attempts in a 26-20 overtime win over Minnesota. Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 94 for the season.

New England won the AFC title after the 1996 season and lost Super Bowl XXXI to Green Bay 35-21, Bledsoe completing 25 of 48 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions; Madden NFL 97 listed him at 99 for 1996. On September 23, 2001, a hit from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis sheared a blood vessel in his chest, causing internal bleeding, and Tom Brady took over. Madden NFL 02 listed him at 86 for that season.

Bledsoe relieved an injured Brady in the AFC Championship Game and threw an 11-yard touchdown to David Patten in a 24-17 win at Pittsburgh; Brady started Super Bowl XXXVI. Buffalo traded for him in 2002, and he threw for 4,359 yards and made his fourth Pro Bowl, a season Madden NFL 03 graded at 83. He retired in April 2007 and was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2011.
