Gus Frerotte was born on July 31, 1971 in Ford Cliff, Pennsylvania, played college football at Tulsa, and was drafted by Washington in the seventh round of the 1994 draft with the 197th overall pick. He made his first start in the eighth week of his rookie year, going 17 of 32 for 226 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-27 win over Indianapolis.
Frerotte threw for a career-high 3,453 yards in 1996 and was selected to the Pro Bowl following that season, a year for which Madden NFL 97 listed him at 60 overall. On November 23, 1997 he sprained his neck by ramming his head into a padded wall while celebrating a touchdown in a 7-7 tie with the Giants, and a broken hip at St. Louis on November 30 ended his season. Madden NFL 98 carried a calculated 82 overall for 1997.
He passed for 462 yards and five touchdowns in a 38-37 win over San Diego on November 19, 2000, a season Madden NFL 2001 rated 81 overall. Madden NFL 06 had him at 78 for 2005, when he started 15 games for Miami. On November 30, 2008 he threw a 99-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Berrian, tying the NFL record. He retired with 21,291 yards, 114 touchdowns and 106 interceptions.
