Brown was a matchup problem before the league had a name for it. A second-round pick, 44th overall, from Colorado in 1993, he started inside for Pittsburgh's 3-4 next to Levon Kirkland, then slid outside after Greg Lloyd's 1996 injury and posted a double-digit sack season that made him rich. He started at inside linebacker in Super Bowl XXX, a loss to Dallas, then signed a large free-agent deal with Seattle in 1997 and stayed eight years.
He made three Pro Bowls, in 1996, 1998 and 1999, and earned first-team All-Pro twice, rushing the passer and dropping into coverage with equal comfort. He wrapped up in New England. Away from football he ran Pro Exotics, a business breeding non-venomous snakes. His Madden line stayed strong for a long time: a 33 in the 1996 edition before the breakout, then a jump into the high 80s, cresting at 91 in the 2003 edition during his Seattle prime.
