Ray Buchanan: 47 interceptions for Colts, Falcons and Raiders

Raymond Louis Buchanan was born September 29, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois, attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, and played four seasons at Louisville under Howard Schnellenberger. The Indianapolis Colts drafted him in the third round of the 1993 NFL draft with the 65th pick and started him at free safety as a rookie. Moved to cornerback late in 1994, he finished that season with eight interceptions for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Madden NFL 96 put him at a calculated 89 for the 1995 season.

Buchanan signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 1997 and started every game there for five straight seasons. He had seven interceptions in 1998 and was named second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection for that year; Madden NFL 99 rated him a calculated 90 for the 1998 season. Atlanta won the NFC Championship Game 30-27 in overtime at Minnesota on January 17, 1999, then lost Super Bowl XXXIII to Denver two weeks later. Madden NFL 2000 had him at a calculated 92 for the 1999 season.

He played one final season with the Oakland Raiders in 2004, starting all 16 games at free safety, and Madden NFL 05 listed him at 83 for that year. Oakland released him on February 28, 2005. Buchanan played 184 games with 823 tackles, 47 interceptions and four touchdowns, and was inducted into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
