Wake Forest safety who intercepted Stafford in Super Bowl LVI

Jessie Bates III was born on February 26, 1997 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He played two seasons at Wake Forest and entered the 2018 draft, where Cincinnati took him in the second round, 54th overall. He started all 16 games as a rookie and intercepted three passes. Madden NFL 19 rated him 74 for that 2018 season.

He was named second-team All-Pro after the 2020 season. In Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022 he intercepted Matthew Stafford in the end zone, and the Rams won the game 23-20. Cincinnati placed the franchise tag on him the following month. Madden NFL 22 rated him 91 for that 2021 season.

Atlanta signed him to a four-year contract in March 2023. He set career highs of 132 tackles, six interceptions and three forced fumbles in 2023 and was voted to his first Pro Bowl. Madden NFL 25 rated him 97 for the 2024 season, when he had 102 tackles, four interceptions and four forced fumbles. He was named second-team All-Pro for a third time after the 2025 season.
