Kevin Williams was a first-team All-American at Miami and a second-round pick of the Cowboys in 1993, a slot receiver and return man who made an immediate splash as a rookie, scoring on both a reception and a 64-yard punt return in a single early game and helping Dallas to another title.

Madden's cards of him carry the mid-90s Cowboys inflation. Williams shows a glitchy 99 in Madden NFL 95 for the 1994 season, a number that reflects his return value and awareness more than any receiving skill, since his catching ratings were often down in the single digits and teens. The 99 is misleading; he was a good returner and a complementary receiver, not an elite one.

Williams won two Super Bowls with Dallas, XXVIII and XXX, and finished with 178 catches and three punt-return touchdowns across stops with the Cowboys, Cardinals, Bills and 49ers. He was a role player whose real value was on special teams and in the slot, just the versatile depth a champion carries. Madden's phantom 99 rated the returner and forgot the receiver, which is roughly backwards, but it caught that he was worth something.
