Tim Brown was born on July 22, 1966 in Dallas, Texas, and attended Woodrow Wilson High School there. At Notre Dame he became the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy, in 1987, and the Los Angeles Raiders drafted him sixth overall in 1988. He led the NFL with 1,098 kickoff return yards as a rookie, then injured his left knee in the 1989 opener and missed the rest of that season. Madden NFL 92 put him at a calculated 36 for the 1991 season.

Brown moved into the starting lineup for good in 1993 and recorded nine consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 98 for 1994. He led the NFL with 104 receptions in 1997, for 1,408 yards, and was selected to nine Pro Bowls, the first two as a return man.

Madden NFL 2001 rated him 94 for the 2000 season. Oakland reached Super Bowl XXXVII after the 2002 season, a year for which Madden NFL 03 rated him 90. The Raiders released him in August 2004 and he played that season with Tampa Bay. He signed a one-day contract with Oakland and retired on July 19, 2005 with 1,094 receptions, 14,934 receiving yards and 100 receiving touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
