Dana Hall came out of Washington as a first-round pick, 18th overall, in 1992, and he is remembered mostly as a disappointment, a safety who never justified the draft slot and turns up on lists of the franchise's biggest busts. He made the all-rookie team, won a Super Bowl ring on the 1994 team, and was gone from San Francisco after three seasons.

Madden, curiously, thought more of him than the fan base did. The game rated Hall a 92 in Madden NFL '95 for the 1994 season, an inflated number for a player widely seen as a letdown, propped up by a 95 speed rating and undercut by an awareness score in the 20s that hinted at the truth. He was a gifted athlete the game graded on his measurables rather than his instincts, and the gap between the 92 and the reputation is the whole story of his career.

Hall drifted to Cleveland and then Jacksonville, intercepted seven passes across six seasons, and was out of the league after 1997.
