Aeneas Williams was born on January 29, 1968, in New Orleans and attended Alcee Fortier High School. He walked on at Southern University and led the nation in interceptions as a senior. The Phoenix Cardinals took him in the third round, 59th overall, in 1991. His six interceptions as a rookie tied for the most in the NFC.

Williams started for 10 seasons in Arizona and had a career-high nine interceptions in 1994 to tie for the NFL lead, a year for which Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 94. Madden NFL 97 rated him 54 for 1996. St. Louis traded for him in 2001, and he returned two Brett Favre interceptions for touchdowns in the divisional playoff in January 2002. Madden NFL 02 rated him 90 for that season.

He started Super Bowl XXXVI in February 2002, a 20-17 loss to New England, and Madden NFL 03 rated him 97 for the 2002 season. He moved to free safety in 2003 and made a Pro Bowl there, the eighth of his career. He was a first-team All-Pro in 1995, 1997 and 2001. Williams retired during the 2005 offseason and founded a church near St. Louis in 2007. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014 with 55 interceptions for 807 yards and nine touchdowns.
