Carolina's scoreboard for sixteen seasons

John Kasay was the last man standing from the Panthers' 1995 expansion roster, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia who kicked in Seattle for four years before becoming the face of Carolina's special teams for the next sixteen. He retired as the franchise's all-time leading scorer, with 351 field goals and 429 extra points that stand as team records, across a career that spanned 21 NFL seasons. His lone Pro Bowl came after the 1996 season, when he also earned second-team All-Pro honors.

He is remembered too for one unlucky swing of the leg. In Super Bowl XXXVIII against New England, his kickoff after Carolina tied the game late sailed out of bounds, handing the Patriots the ball at the 40 and helping set up Adam Vinatieri's winning field goal in a 32-29 loss.

Madden treated him as a fixture. His rating opened at a modest 56 in the 1996 edition, then settled into the high 80s and low 90s for years, reaching 92 in both the 2000 and 2008 editions before easing back to the mid-80s at the end.
