A fast, instinctive tackle machine cut down by injuries
Jon Beason was excellent immediately, a Defensive Rookie of the Year runner-up who became the tackle-machine heart of the Carolina defense. The Miami product diagnosed plays fast and ran sideline to sideline.
Madden had him at 81 as a rookie and a 97 by the 2011 edition, his peak. A torn Achilles and a run of other injuries kept interrupting him, though he had a productive later stint with the Giants. Three Pro Bowls in, health was the only thing that stopped him.
