Kris Jenkins was born on August 3, 1979 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and played college football at Maryland, where he recorded 154 tackles and 9.5 sacks. Carolina drafted him in the second round, 44th overall, in 2001. He started all 16 games in 2002, was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-Pro, then repeated both honors in 2003 as the Panthers reached Super Bowl XXXVIII. Madden NFL 03 rated him 64 for the 2002 season and Madden NFL 04 rated him 93 for 2003.
A shoulder injury ended his 2004 season after four games, and he tore an anterior cruciate ligament in the 2005 opener. He came back for all 16 games in 2006 and made a third Pro Bowl. Madden NFL 05 rated him 98 for the 2004 season.
Carolina traded him to the New York Jets in February 2008 for third- and fifth-round picks. He started all 16 games that season, made a fourth Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro. Madden NFL 10 rated him 95 for the 2009 season. Torn ACLs ended both his 2009 and 2010 seasons. The Jets released him on February 28, 2011, and he announced his retirement on July 20, 2011 with 24 career sacks.
