Donald Ray Crockett was born January 5, 1967 in Dallas, Texas, played at Duncanville High School and Baylor, and was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 1989 NFL draft with the 86th pick. He took over as a full-time starter in 1991, intercepted six passes, and returned one 96 yards for a touchdown against Dallas on October 27, 1991, a game for which he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Madden NFL 92 listed him at a calculated 59 for the 1991 season.
Crockett joined the Denver Broncos in 1994 and started at cornerback there for seven seasons. Madden NFL 98 put him at a calculated 86 for the 1997 season, when he intercepted Kordell Stewart in the AFC Championship Game and started in the 31-24 Super Bowl XXXII win over Green Bay on January 25, 1998. He started again in Super Bowl XXXIII on January 31, 1999, a 34-19 win over Atlanta. Madden NFL 2001 rated him 87 for the 2000 season.
He closed his career with two seasons in Kansas City, taking two interceptions off Jake Plummer in a 49-0 win over Arizona on December 1, 2002, a season Madden NFL 03 listed him at 68 for. The Chiefs released him on June 3, 2003. He finished with 36 interceptions, 15.5 sacks and five touchdowns, and was named to both the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos 50th anniversary teams.
