Jason Hatcher was born on July 13, 1982 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He started at tight end for Grambling State as a sophomore in 2003 before converting to defensive end, and the Dallas Cowboys drafted him 92nd overall in 2006. He played 14 games without a start as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 07 rated 76.
He spent five years in the Cowboys' line rotation, and Madden NFL 10 rated him 59 for the 2009 season, a figure Madden NFL 11 repeated for 2010. He started 10 games in 2011 and all 16 in 2012, and Madden NFL 13 rated him 77 for the 2012 season.
Moved inside to tackle in 2013, he recorded 11 sacks, led all interior linemen in that category and was selected to the Pro Bowl; Madden NFL 25 rated him 87 for the year. He signed a four-year, $27.5 million contract with Washington in March 2014 and was rated 89 in Madden NFL 15 for that season, his career high on the card. Knee problems limited his two years there. He announced his retirement in April 2016 after 10 seasons, 147 games and 34.5 sacks.
