Kendrell Bell Madden Career 2002-2008 - Peak 92 OVR
A rookie who hit like a truck, then couldn't stay healthy
Kendrell Bell arrived in Pittsburgh in 2001 as a second-round pick out of Georgia and immediately punished ballcarriers, starting all 16 games at inside linebacker, racking up nine sacks and walking off with Defensive Rookie of the Year, a Pro Bowl nod and second-team All-Pro honors. He played downhill and violent, exactly what the Steelers wanted in their front seven.
Then the injuries came. A high-ankle sprain, followed by shoulder and groin problems that required sports hernia surgery, held him to just three games in 2004. He signed a big free-agent contract with Kansas City in 2005 but managed only 2.5 sacks over three seasons there before retiring.
Madden captured both the arrival and the fade. His rookie card sat at 64 in the 2001 edition, then surged into the high 80s and low 90s, topping out at 92 in the 2004 edition. As the injuries mounted the rating fell back to 80 by the 2007 edition.
