Jeff Garcia was born on February 24, 1970 in Gilroy, California, played at Gavilan College and San Jose State, and went undrafted in 1994. He spent five seasons with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, winning the Grey Cup in November 1998 and taking the game's most valuable player award. San Francisco signed him in 1999, where he started 10 of 13 games as Steve Young's replacement, a season for which Madden NFL 2000 put him at a calculated 66.
He threw for 4,278 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2000 and was a Pro Bowl selection after the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons. On January 5, 2003 he brought the 49ers back from a 38-14 deficit to beat the New York Giants 39-38 in a wild-card game. Madden NFL 03 rated him 92 for 2002, and Madden NFL 04 rated him 93 for 2003, his last year in San Francisco.
Garcia started for Cleveland in 2004 and Detroit in 2005, then went 5-1 as Philadelphia's starter after Donovan McNabb was injured in 2006. He led Tampa Bay to the 2007 NFC South title and a fourth Pro Bowl, and Madden NFL 09 rated him 90 for the 2008 season. He finished with 25,537 NFL passing yards and 161 touchdowns, and later coached quarterbacks for the Montreal Alouettes in 2014.
