Antoine Winfield Sr. was born on June 24, 1977, in Akron, Ohio, and played cornerback at Ohio State, where he won the Jim Thorpe Award in 1998. The Buffalo Bills drafted him in the first round, 23rd overall, in 1999. He played 16 games as a rookie with two starts and two interceptions, and Madden NFL 2000 carried him at a calculated 90 for that season.
Winfield became a full-time starter in 2000 and spent five seasons in Buffalo, recording a career-high 109 combined tackles in 2003, the year Madden NFL 04 listed him at 87. He signed with Minnesota in March 2004. Madden NFL 06 rated him 93 for the 2005 season, his highest stored figure, and he intercepted four passes in each of 2005 and 2006.
In 2008 he made 96 combined tackles, returned a blocked field goal 59 yards for a touchdown, and was named second-team All-Pro; Madden NFL 09 listed him at 91 for that year. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons. Minnesota released him in March 2013, and he retired on August 31, 2013, after 14 seasons, 191 games, 1,094 combined tackles, 27 interceptions and 7.5 sacks.
