A rangy Bill who led the league in tackles
Sam Cowart was a fast, physical linebacker and the tackle-leading heart of the Buffalo defense in his early seasons. The Florida State product led the league in tackles in 2000 and looked like an ascending star.
Madden had him at 84 and a 94 by the 2001 edition, off that All-Pro-caliber year. A torn Achilles interrupted his prime, and though he stayed productive, especially later with the Jets, he never quite got back to that peak.
