Undrafted kicker, $100 waiver claim, 1,687 points in 15 seasons

Ryan Longwell was born on August 16, 1974 in Seattle and kicked at California. San Francisco signed him as an undrafted free agent in 1997, and Green Bay claimed him off waivers for the $100 fee. In January 1998 he kicked a field goal and three extra points in Green Bay's 31-24 Super Bowl XXXII loss to Denver. Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 60 for the 1998 season.

He played nine seasons in Green Bay without missing a game. Madden NFL 02 rated him 94 for 2001. An extra point against San Diego in December 2003 moved him past Don Hutson's 58-year-old franchise record of 823 points, and he left Green Bay with 1,054. Madden NFL 06 rated him 92 for 2005, his final Packers season.

Minnesota signed him in 2006. On September 17 that year he scored all 16 points in a 16-13 overtime win over Carolina, with three field goals and a 16-yard touchdown pass on a fake. Madden NFL 12 rated him 96 for 2011, his last season. He finished with 1,687 points, 361 field goals in 434 attempts and no Pro Bowl selections. He retired as a Packer on August 12, 2013, entered the Packers Hall of Fame in 2018 and joined California's staff as a senior analyst in 2023.
