Undrafted punter who won a ring pinning Philly deep

Miller took the long road. Undrafted out of Arizona, he won a Grey Cup with the Baltimore Stallions before the Steelers gave him a job in 1996, and he punted eight seasons in Pittsburgh. In 2003 he even completed an 81-yard touchdown pass, tying a record for the longest throw by a non-quarterback.

His ring came after he moved to New England. In Super Bowl XXXIX, a 24-21 win over Philadelphia, Miller pinned the Eagles deep in the closing minutes, dropping one punt at their own 4 with 46 seconds left to help seal it. He finished with 750 career punts and a 43.1-yard average across stops in Pittsburgh, New England and Tennessee.

The Madden math tracked his prime. He entered as a 39 in the 1996 edition, a rookie afterthought, then built into the 80s once he was established, reaching a career-best 90 in the 2006 game before tailing off to the 70s as his career wound down.
