Darrell Green Madden Career 1992-2003 - Peak 99 OVR

In a January 1988 playoff against the Bears, Darrell Green returned a punt 52 yards for the game-winning touchdown while playing through torn rib cartilage, hobbling into the end zone in obvious pain. That was the essence of him. Washington drafted the Texas A&I speedster 28th overall in 1983, and he never wore another uniform, playing all 20 of his seasons in the burgundy and gold.

He won the NFL's Fastest Man competition four times and remains its only undefeated multiple winner. He intercepted 54 passes, holds the record for 19 straight seasons with at least one pick, and made seven Pro Bowls. He won two Super Bowls with Washington, XXII and XXVI, and in his final game at age 42 he ripped off a 35-yard punt return on a reverse. He entered the Hall of Fame in 2008.

What makes his Madden line remarkable is when the peak lands. In the 2000 edition, Green rates a 90 overall while pushing 40 years old, a nod to how long the speed and instincts held up. The number tapered to 79 and 81 in the 2001 and 2002 editions as his historic run finally wound toward the finish.
