Reggie White was born on December 19, 1961 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and played at Tennessee. The Philadelphia Eagles took him fourth overall in the 1984 supplemental draft, and he joined them in September 1985 after two seasons with the USFL's Memphis Showboats. He was ordained as a minister at 17 and was known as the Minister of Defense.

White recorded 21 sacks in 12 games in the strike-shortened 1987 season and won Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year. He was first-team All-Pro in every season from 1986 through 1991 and left Philadelphia after 1992 with 124 sacks. Green Bay signed him in free agency in 1993.

Madden NFL 95 listed him at a calculated 98 for 1994, and he sacked Drew Bledsoe three times in Green Bay's win over New England in Super Bowl XXXI. He had 16 sacks in 1998, was first-team All-Pro for the eighth time and won a second Defensive Player of the Year award; Madden NFL 99 put him at a calculated 96 for that season. Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 91 for 2000, a final year with Carolina. White made 13 consecutive Pro Bowls, retired with 198 sacks, died on December 26, 2004 at 43, and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
