Rob Burnett: Syracuse DE, 73 sacks, Super Bowl XXXV

Rob Burnett was born on August 27, 1967 in Livingston, New Jersey, and played college football at Syracuse, where he was a four-year letterman and a Lombardi Award semifinalist as a senior. The Cleveland Browns drafted him in the fifth round of the 1990 draft, 129th overall. He started six games as a rookie and took over as the full-time left defensive end in 1992, holding the job for four straight 16-game seasons. Madden NFL 94 listed him at a calculated 66 for the 1993 season.

Burnett made his only Pro Bowl after the 1994 season, and Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 82 for that year. He moved to Baltimore with the franchise in 1996 and played only six games that season. He started all 16 games in 1998, a year Madden NFL 99 rated at a calculated 85, and started every game again in 1999 and 2000.

The 2000 season was the most productive of his career by Approximate Value; he was named second-team All-Pro, and Madden NFL 2001 carried him at a stored 84. Baltimore beat the New York Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV on January 28, 2001. Salary cap constraints ended his time with the Ravens after 2001, and he played two final seasons in Miami, retiring after 2003 with 603 tackles and 73 sacks. He was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame with the class of 2001.
