The Kraken's 15-sack season, then a career undone
Greg Hardy called himself the Kraken, and for one season the nickname fit. A sixth-round pick out of Ole Miss in 2010, he broke through in 2013 with 15 sacks, a Panthers single-season record, along with a Pro Bowl trip and second-team All-Pro honors.
Carolina placed the franchise tag on him in February 2014, and then everything came apart. He was arrested in May 2014 and convicted that July on domestic violence charges involving an ex-girlfriend, which landed him on the commissioner's exempt list for nearly the entire season. Dallas signed him in 2015, the NFL suspended him, and he managed six sacks in twelve games before the league moved on. He later fought in the UFC.
Madden caught both the rise and the fall. He was a 65 in the 2010 edition as an unknown late-round rookie, surged to 90 in the 2013 game, and topped out at a 92 in the 2014 edition, rating the monster season just as everything else was collapsing around it.
