Mike Jenkins was born March 22, 1985 in Neuenburg am Rhein, West Germany, where his mother was stationed with the United States Army, and he grew up in Bradenton, Florida. He set a South Florida record with 47 passes defensed and was named a first-team All-American in 2007. Dallas traded up three spots with Seattle to draft him 25th overall in 2008.
He played 14 games as a rookie, mostly in the slot, and returned an interception for a touchdown. Madden NFL 09 rated him 82. He intercepted five passes in 2009 and was added to the Pro Bowl roster on January 25, 2010 after Antoine Winfield withdrew, a season Madden NFL 10 rated 73. He started all 16 games in 2010 with 55 tackles and a team-leading 15 passes defensed, and Madden NFL 11 rated him 85.
A neck stinger cost him the 2011 preseason, and a dislocated shoulder later required surgery. Dallas drafted Morris Claiborne sixth overall in 2012 and let him leave the following spring. He started 15 games for Oakland in 2013 and made two interceptions, a season Madden NFL 25 rated 77, then played two years in Tampa Bay. He signed with Arizona in July 2016 and tore his ACL in a preseason game against Houston on August 29, 2016. He finished with 10 interceptions and 54 passes defensed in 101 games.
