Fred Jackson Madden Career 2009-2015 - Peak 89 OVR
From Coe College and indoor ball to the Bills' backfield
Fred Jackson reached the NFL by the hardest possible path. He went undrafted out of Division III Coe College in 2003, played indoor football for the Sioux City Bandits, spent time with NFL Europe's Rhein Fire, and signed with Buffalo in 2006 only to open on the practice squad. He was 25 before he stuck.
Once he did, he became a genuine weapon. In 2009 he became the first player in NFL history to post 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 kickoff-return yards in the same season, finishing with 2,516 all-purpose yards. He was among the league leaders in yards from scrimmage midway through 2011 when a fractured fibula against Miami ended his season. He spent nine years in Buffalo as a franchise-level rusher, then signed with Seattle in 2015 and finally won a playoff game.
His Madden grade rewarded the grind, opening at 79 in the 2008 edition and peaking at 89 in the 2012 edition on the strength of that 2011 tear before settling back into the low-to-mid 80s.
