Byron Leftwich Madden Career 2004-2013 - Peak 89 OVR

Byron Leftwich was born on January 14, 1980 in Washington, D.C., and played college football at Marshall, completing 939 of 1,442 passes for 11,903 yards and 89 touchdowns. He was twice named MAC Most Valuable Player and finished sixth in the 2002 Heisman voting. In a November 2002 game against Akron he broke his left tibia and kept playing, his linemen carrying him between snaps; Marshall lost 34-20.

Jacksonville drafted him seventh overall in 2003 after Minnesota let its selection lapse. He replaced the injured Mark Brunell in the fourth game of his rookie year, and Madden NFL 04 listed him at 78 for 2003. He threw for 2,941 yards in 2004. Through ten games of 2005 he had an 89.3 passer rating and a 15-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio before a broken ankle ended his regular season.

Ankle surgery ended his 2006 season, the year Madden NFL 07 rated him 89. Jacksonville released him on September 1, 2007. He backed up in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, earning a ring as Ben Roethlisberger's backup in Super Bowl XLIII, and Madden NFL 11 had him at 69 for 2010. His last appearance came in November 2012, when he broke a rib against Baltimore. He threw for 10,532 yards, 58 touchdowns and 42 interceptions for four franchises, and he was Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator when the Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV.
