"Can't wait!" and the undrafted road that earned it
Bart Scott came out of Southern Illinois undrafted in 2002 and spent years on special teams before Baltimore ever trusted him with a defense. When his chance came in 2006 he seized it, piling up 135 tackles and 9.5 sacks and earning second-team All-Pro recognition alongside a Pro Bowl nod. He hit like a man who remembered every team that passed on him.
He followed Rex Ryan to the Jets in 2009 and gave the NFL one of its most quoted postgame moments after New York knocked off New England in the January 2011 playoffs, hollering "Can't wait!" into a live camera about the next round. He later built a second career as a broadcaster. His Madden progression is one of the steepest here: a 67 in both the 2004 and 2005 editions, then a leap to 84 in the 2006 game, and a peak of 91 in the 2007 edition after his breakout season, a number he stayed near for years in New York.
