Denver took Reggie Hayward in the third round of the 2001 draft out of Iowa State, where he had been a three-year starter and a first-team All-Big 12 end. He spent four seasons rotating through the Broncos front before free agency turned him into a featured player. Jacksonville signed him in March 2005, and he rewarded them with 8.5 sacks, six pass deflections and 33 tackles in his first year on the Jaguars line.

The ratings caught that jump. After sitting at 65 in the 2003 edition, Hayward climbed to 82 and 87 before topping out at a 89 in Madden 2006, the reflection of his best statistical season. Then the injuries arrived. A torn Achilles ended his 2006 campaign before it started, and a fractured fibula in the 2009 opener wiped out most of that year too. He fell to 75 in the final two editions and was released by Jacksonville in July 2010, closing a nine-year career built more on the Florida years than the Denver ones.
