Michael Vick was born on June 26, 1980 in Newport News, Virginia, and played college football at Virginia Tech. Atlanta took him first overall in the 2001 draft, and Madden NFL 02 listed him at 72 for that rookie season. On December 1, 2002 he ran for 173 yards against Minnesota, then a single-game record for a quarterback. On January 4, 2003 he led Atlanta to a 27-7 wild-card win at Lambeau Field, the first home playoff loss in Green Bay's history.
A broken right fibula limited him to five games in 2003, and Madden NFL 04 listed him at 95 for that season, the highest figure of his career. He ran for 1,039 yards in 2006, the first 1,000-yard rushing season by a quarterback. On August 27, 2007 Vick pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge tied to a dogfighting operation he financed in Virginia. He was sentenced on December 10, 2007 to 23 months, served 21, and was released from federal custody on July 20, 2009. He did not play in 2007 or 2008.
Philadelphia signed him in August 2009. Madden NFL 11 listed him at 73 for the 2010 season, in which he became the starter, made his fourth Pro Bowl and won AP Comeback Player of the Year. Madden NFL 12 listed him at 93 for 2011. He finished with 22,464 passing yards, 133 touchdown passes and 6,109 rushing yards. Norfolk State hired him as head coach in December 2024.
