Chris Hovan: Vikings first-rounder, All-Pro, 156 NFL games
Chris Hovan was born May 12, 1978, in Rocky River, Ohio. At Boston College he started 43 of 45 games, recorded 20.5 sacks, and became the first player in program history to earn All-Big East honors three times. Minnesota drafted him 25th overall in 2000. He started 13 of 16 games as a rookie and made the PFWA All-Rookie Team, and Madden NFL 2001 rated him 79 for that season.
Hovan had a career-high six sacks in 2001. He followed with 52 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2002 and was named second-team All-Pro, and Madden NFL 03 rated him 90 for that year. He started every game again in 2003, the season Madden NFL 04 rated him 94, his highest figure. His playing time fell to 13 games in 2004, and he signed with Tampa Bay on April 1, 2005.
The Buccaneers won the NFC South and finished with the league's top-ranked defense in his first season there. Madden NFL 07 rated him 86 for 2006, when he made 51 tackles. Tampa Bay released him on April 26, 2010. He signed with St. Louis that June and spent the season on injured reserve with a back injury. He later coached at South Florida and with the Tampa Bay Storm. Hovan finished with 408 tackles, 22 sacks and eight fumble recoveries in 156 games.
