Jon Kitna was born on September 21, 1972, in Tacoma, Washington, and walked on at Central Washington University, where he threw for 4,616 yards in 1995 and led the Wildcats to the NAIA national championship. Seattle signed him as an undrafted free agent in April 1996. He was MVP of World Bowl V with the Barcelona Dragons in 1997 and made his first NFL start that December, bringing Seattle back from 21-3 down to beat Oakland 22-21. Madden NFL 99 carried a calculated 60 for the 1998 season.
Kitna started 15 games in 1999 for 3,346 yards and 23 touchdowns as Seattle won the AFC West and lost 20-17 to Miami in the wild card round. Madden NFL 2000 gave him a calculated 78 for that year. He signed with Cincinnati in March 2001 and was NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2003 after 3,591 yards and 26 touchdowns. Madden NFL 05 put him at 85 for 2004, a season he spent mostly backing up Carson Palmer.
In Detroit he threw for 4,208 yards in 2006 and 4,068 in 2007, the first back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons in Lions history, and Madden NFL 08 listed him at 84 for 2007. Dallas acquired him in a February 2009 trade for cornerback Anthony Henry, and he started nine games in 2010 after Tony Romo broke his collarbone. He retired on January 12, 2012 with 29,745 passing yards, 169 touchdowns and 165 interceptions, then taught math and coached at Lincoln High School in Tacoma from 2012 to 2014.
