Charlie Garner Madden Career 1995-2005 - Peak 95 OVR

They called him IO, short for Instant Offense, and the 2002 Oakland Raiders leaned on every letter of it. Garner led all running backs in the league that year with 91 catches for 941 yards while also rushing for 962, a two-way workload that helped carry Oakland to Super Bowl XXXVII. Philadelphia had drafted him in the second round, 42nd overall, in 1994 out of Tennessee, and he spent four years there before a stretch in San Francisco where he once ran for 201 yards in a game, a franchise single-game mark at the time.

He finished with 7,097 rushing yards and 3,711 receiving, a back defenses could never simply crowd the box against. His Madden number climbed with the reputation: a 60 in the 1996 edition when he was still a change-of-pace option, up to 84 by the 2000 game, and cresting at 90 in the 2003 edition that followed his enormous Oakland season. He closed things out in Tampa Bay in 2004 and 2005, the burst finally fading after a decade of making tacklers miss in space.
