Georgia's Garrison Hearst: 7,966 rushing yards over ten seasons

Garrison Hearst was born on January 4, 1971 in Lincolnton, Georgia, and played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1990 to 1992, running for 1,547 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior and finishing third in the 1992 Heisman voting. The Phoenix Cardinals drafted him third overall in 1993; he played six games as a rookie and eight in 1994, seasons for which Madden NFL 94 carried a calculated 59 and Madden NFL 95 a calculated 86.

He ran for 1,070 yards in 1995, was released in 1996 training camp, and gained 847 yards for Cincinnati before joining San Francisco. His 1,019 yards in 1997 drew a calculated 89 from Madden NFL 98, the highest figure of his career. He carried 310 times for 1,570 yards in 1998, made the Pro Bowl, and opened that season with a 96-yard overtime touchdown run to beat the Jets 36-30.

On the first play from scrimmage of the divisional playoff at Atlanta in January 1999 he broke his ankle, and complications cut off the blood supply to the talus bone. He missed the 1999 and 2000 seasons, came back in 2001 for 1,206 yards and the AP Comeback Player of the Year award, and Madden NFL 02 listed him at 68 for that year. He ran for 972 yards in 2002 and 768 in 2003, then closed out with seven games for Denver in 2004. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in January 2026, for induction that December.
