Jeff Blake was born on December 4, 1970, in Daytona Beach, Florida, played at East Carolina, and was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round, 166th overall, in 1992. He appeared in three games as a rookie and was released the following offseason. Cincinnati signed him in 1994, and he made his first start on October 30, 1994, against Dallas, throwing for 243 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-20 loss.

Blake threw for 3,822 yards with 28 touchdowns in 1995 and was selected to the Pro Bowl, where he completed a 93-yard touchdown pass to Yancey Thigpen, the longest in that game's history. Madden NFL 96 put him at a calculated 79 for the 1995 season. He followed with 3,624 yards and 24 touchdowns in 1996 for an 8-8 Bengals team, and Madden NFL 97 listed him at 88 for that season, the highest figure of his career.

He left Cincinnati in free agency after the 1999 season and started 11 games for New Orleans in 2000 before breaking his foot, a year Madden NFL 2001 gave him an 86. Baltimore started him 11 times in 2002, a season Madden NFL 03 listed at 72, and Arizona gave him 13 starts in 2003. Blake closed his career with short stints in Philadelphia and Chicago, and he finished with 1,827 completions in 3,241 attempts for 21,711 yards, 134 touchdowns, 99 interceptions and 100 starts.
