Frank Reich was born on December 4, 1961 in Freeport, New York, and played at Maryland, where on November 10, 1984 he came off the bench to erase a 31-0 halftime deficit against Miami in a 42-40 win. Buffalo drafted him in the third round, 57th overall, in 1985, and he spent ten seasons backing up Jim Kelly. Madden NFL 92 gave him a calculated 56 for 1991 and Madden NFL 93 a calculated 59 for 1992.

Starting a wild-card game on January 3, 1993 with Kelly hurt, Reich brought the Bills back from 35-3 down to beat Houston 41-38 in overtime, started again in a 24-3 divisional win at Pittsburgh, and relieved Kelly once more in Super Bowl XXVII. Madden NFL 94 carried a calculated 43 for the 1993 season, and Madden NFL 95 a calculated 90 for 1994, his last year in Buffalo.

He signed with the expansion Carolina Panthers in 1995 and threw the franchise's first touchdown pass, to Pete Metzelaars, started seven games for the Jets in 1996 and finished with Detroit in 1997 and 1998. Reich retired after the 1998 season having completed 54.5 percent of his passes for 6,075 yards, 40 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. He was Philadelphia's offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl LII win and head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 through 2022.
