First pick of the 1992 supplemental draft, 10,248 yards

Dave Brown was born on February 25, 1970, in Summit, New Jersey, grew up in Westfield, and played at Duke, where he set a school single-game record with 479 passing yards against North Carolina in 1989. The New York Giants took him first overall in the 1992 supplemental draft and gave up their 1993 first-round pick to do it. His first appearance came on December 12, 1992, at Phoenix, a 19-0 loss in which he was injured.

New York released Phil Simms in June 1994, and Brown started 15 games that season as the Giants went 9-7 behind a closing six-game winning streak. Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 80 for the 1994 season. The Giants won 11 games across 1995 and 1996 and ranked last in the league in offense in 1996, a season Madden NFL 97 listed him at 91, the highest figure of his career.

A chest injury against Dallas in 1997 cost Brown the job to Danny Kanell, and Madden NFL 98 gave him a calculated 69 for that season. He signed with Arizona in 1998 and spent four seasons there as a backup, with Madden NFL 02 listing him at 61 for the 2001 season, his last in the league. He later worked in investment management and private equity fundraising. Brown finished with 10,248 passing yards, 44 touchdowns and 58 interceptions.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
