Indiana QB, 222nd pick in 1993, two-time Chiefs Pro Bowler

Trent Green was born on July 9, 1970 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, grew up in St. Louis and played college football at Indiana. The San Diego Chargers drafted him in the eighth round in 1993, 222nd overall. He joined Washington in 1995 and did not start an NFL game until 1998, when he threw for 3,441 yards and 23 touchdowns. Madden NFL 99 carried a calculated 59 overall for that season.

He signed with the St. Louis Rams in February 1999 and suffered a season-ending knee injury in a preseason game on a hit by Rodney Harrison. Kurt Warner replaced him and the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV. Traded to Kansas City in 2001, Green threw a 99-yard touchdown to Marc Boerigter against San Diego on December 22, 2002, tying the record for the longest pass play in NFL history.

In 2003 he threw for 4,039 yards, made his first Pro Bowl and led the Chiefs to a 13-3 record; they lost a divisional playoff game 38-31 to Indianapolis in which neither team punted. Madden NFL 04 rated that 2003 season at 87, and Madden NFL 05 raised him to 91 for 2004. He made a second Pro Bowl in 2005. A severe concussion in the September 10, 2006 opener cost him eight games, and a second, at Houston on October 7, 2007, ended his year in Miami. Green retired in June 2009 with 28,475 passing yards and 162 touchdowns.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
