Jim Kelly Madden Career 1992-1997 - Peak 92 OVR

Jim Kelly was born February 14, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and played at Miami. Buffalo drafted him 14th overall in 1983, but he signed with the USFL's Houston Gamblers and threw for 9,842 yards and 83 touchdowns in 1984 and 1985, winning the 1984 USFL Most Valuable Player award. He signed with the Bills on August 18, 1986.

He ran Buffalo's K-Gun no-huddle offense and threw six touchdown passes in a 52-34 win over Pittsburgh on September 8, 1991. He led the NFL with 33 touchdown passes that season and was a unanimous first-team All-Pro, and Madden NFL 92 put him at a calculated 79 for 1991 and Madden NFL 93 at a calculated 85 for 1992. He started all four Buffalo Super Bowls, XXV through XXVIII, losing each and leaving XXVII in the second quarter with a knee injury.

Madden NFL 95 scored his 1994 season at a calculated 92, and his final season in 1996 carried a stored 53 in Madden NFL 97. He retired in late January 1997 with 35,467 passing yards, 237 touchdowns and five Pro Bowl selections. His son Hunter, born in 1997 and diagnosed with Krabbe disease, died on August 5, 2005; Kelly and his wife Jill founded Hunter's Hope in 1997. Kelly was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the upper jaw in June 2013 and had recurrences in 2014 and 2018. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
