Jerry Hughes: TCU All-American to 70 NFL sacks

Jerry Ray Hughes Jr. was born on August 13, 1988 in Sugar Land, Texas, and played at TCU, where he led the nation with 15 sacks in 2008 and was a unanimous first-team All-American in 2009. The Indianapolis Colts drafted him 31st overall in 2010. He recorded six tackles in 12 games as a rookie, and Madden NFL 11 listed him at 74 for the 2010 season. After four sacks in 2012 he fell to 64 in Madden NFL 13, and on April 29, 2013 the Colts traded him to Buffalo for linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

Hughes made 10 sacks in his first Bills season and became a full-time starter in 2014. Buffalo signed him to a five-year deal on March 9, 2015 and moved him to outside linebacker in 2016; Madden NFL 17 rated him 88 for that season, his highest figure. He sacked Deshaun Watson three times in the wild card game on January 4, 2020, and took two sacks off Lamar Jackson in the divisional round on January 16, 2021.

He left Buffalo after 2021 with 53 sacks and signed with the Houston Texans on May 11, 2022, leading the team with nine sacks; Madden NFL 23 listed him at 79 for that year. Through the 2024 season he had played 225 games and recorded 70 sacks and 19 forced fumbles.
