The Ravens fullback who ran for 902 yards in 2008
Baltimore drafted Le'Ron McClain in the fourth round in 2007, 137th overall, out of Alabama, expecting a blocker. In 2008 injuries pushed him into the lead role and he ran for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns on 232 carries, an unusual season for a listed fullback and enough to earn the first of two Pro Bowl nods. On December 20 that year he broke off an 82-yard touchdown run against Dallas, the longest run by an opponent in the history of Texas Stadium.
Once the Ravens found their backfield again, McClain went back to clearing the way, and he made the Pro Bowl a second time in 2010 as a true fullback. He later played for Kansas City and San Diego, valued the same way everywhere, as a heavy, willing lead blocker who could carry it in a pinch.
That 2008 breakout is stamped on his Madden arc. He rose from a 76 in the 2007 edition to 86 the next year and topped out at a 92 in the 2009 game, the number crediting his surprise rushing season. It held at 90 through the 2011 edition before dropping to 81 as his carries dried up.
