Marcus Spears was born on March 8, 1983 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He played at LSU, where he returned an interception for a touchdown in the January 2004 BCS title game against Oklahoma, and Dallas drafted him 20th overall in 2005. He started 10 of 16 games as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 06 rated 81.
He became a full-time starter as a left end in the Cowboys' 3-4 front in 2006, and Madden NFL 07 rated him 83 for that year, the highest figure of his career. He started all 16 games in 2007 and 15 of 16 in 2008, and was rated 82 for both seasons. Madden NFL 10 dropped him to 71 for 2009, and he was held to eight games by injury in 2010.
He started five games in 2011 and six in 2012, rated 76 in Madden NFL 13 for the later season. Dallas let him go when it switched to a 4-3 front for 2013; he signed with Baltimore, played five games and was waived that October. Spears joined SEC Network as an analyst in 2014 and later moved to ESPN's NFL studio shows. He finished with 10 sacks in 124 NFL games.
