Fast Willie and the longest run in Super Bowl history

Third quarter of Super Bowl XL, Willie Parker took a handoff, hit the second level, and did not stop for 75 yards. It remains the longest run in Super Bowl history, and it came from a back who had been undrafted out of North Carolina, where he barely got the ball.

Pittsburgh found what the Tar Heels missed. Parker broke out in 2006 with 1,494 rushing yards and became the only Steeler to post two 200-yard games in the same season, earning Pro Bowl trips in 2006 and 2007. He won a second ring in Super Bowl XLIII and finished with 5,378 career rushing yards. A broken right fibula in December 2007 stalled his momentum, and the burst that defined him never fully came back.

His rating rode that curve. Parker was a 73 in the 2005 edition, climbed to a 93 by the 2008 edition at the height of his production, then dropped to a 77 in the 2010 edition once the injuries had slowed him.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
