Sheldon Brown belonged to the best draft class in Eagles history, the 2002 group that also delivered Lito Sheppard and Brian Westbrook. A second-round pick, 59th overall, out of South Carolina, he became a corner a defensive coordinator could set his watch by, starting all 16 games four seasons running from 2004 through 2007 and rarely missing time.

He played the position with force. The play people still bring up is the hit he laid on Reggie Bush in the January 2007 divisional playoff against the Saints, a full-speed collision that flattened the rookie. Over 11 seasons split between Philadelphia and Cleveland he piled up 29 interceptions, 103 pass breakups, and more than 640 tackles, physical to the last snap.

His Madden trajectory was a long, steady climb rather than a spike. He started at a 63 in the 2002 edition, worked into the high 80s by mid-decade, and reached a career-best 91 in the 2008 game before gradually tapering into the low 80s at the end of his run.
