The blocking fullback who found a home in New England
Heath Evans was the first fullback taken in the 2001 draft, a third-round pick out of Auburn who understood the job was to hit people so someone else could run. In Seattle he cleared paths for Shaun Alexander for four years before bouncing to Miami and then landing in New England.
With the Patriots he became a trusted role player, catching a touchdown against the Jets to open the 2007 season that finished 16-0 in the regular schedule. He signed with New Orleans in 2009 and was on injured reserve with a knee injury when the Saints beat Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLIV, the only ring of his career.
His Madden number reflected a steady climb rather than a spike. He entered at 71 in the 2001 edition and inched up through the middle of the decade before reaching a 92 in the 2007 game, his ceiling, built on his New England work. After that it settled into the low 80s for the rest of his run.
