Matt Light: 11 seasons at left tackle, three Patriots rings

Matt Light was born June 23, 1978, in Greenville, Ohio. He arrived at Purdue as a tight end in 1996, moved to left tackle in 1998, and was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2000 on a line that allowed seven sacks in a Big Ten title season. New England drafted him 48th overall in 2001. He started 12 of 14 games as a rookie and at left tackle in the Super Bowl XXXVI win, and Madden NFL 02 rated him 54 for that season.

Light started all 16 games in 2002 and 2003, and the Patriots gave up no sacks in the Super Bowl XXXVIII win over Carolina. A third ring followed in Super Bowl XXXIX after the 2004 season, when Corey Dillon set a franchise record with 1,635 rushing yards; Madden NFL 05 rated him 89 for 2004. A broken leg in Week 3 of 2005 cost him 11 games.

He returned for 16 starts in 2006 and a first Pro Bowl. Madden NFL 08 rated him 91 for 2007, when he was a first-team All-Pro, and Madden NFL 09 rated him 95 for 2008. A third Pro Bowl came after the 2010 season. Light announced his retirement at Gillette Stadium on May 7, 2012, and was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on September 29, 2018.
